8/10/07 - Fleet Town Youth 3 Dorking Youth 2 - SYL Cup 1st Round

It was nice to get back to winning ways in this hastily arranged Cup game. Cheers to the league for the 24 hours notice.

We played Dorking from the South Division who I believe are yet to win a game this season. Again cheers to the league for not updating their website.

We took the lead on 4 minutes following a run by Mike Campbell, the keepers smother bounced off mike's 'chest' bobbled over the stranded keeper for Mike to finish.

Despite playing some really good football, plenty of good build up play we lacked a little composure and our final ball was never good enough. We were undone on the 17th and 32nd minutes by 2 straight balls, where we were caught square and ball watching.

1-2 down at half time despite playing the better football. 'We' made a couple of changes and to be fair they
didn't really take affect until 'we' went 3-4-3. We were getting a little worried as we entered the final 15 minutes and the pressure eventually paid off on 77 minutes when Josh Daniels got in behind the full back and showed our first bit of composure in the final third. He laid the ball back for Dan Bone to finish. 2-2

The winner came 5 minutes from time when Mike squared the ball to Gav whose shot from outside the box arrowed passed the keeper and nestled in the net. 3-2.

We survived some late scares with Dorking throwing everyone in the box looking for an equalizer.

The only other thing of note was 3 needless bookings, 2 of which were for Liam Roberts altough the ref did a Poll and mistook a 3 for a 4. Easy mistake to make. To be honest I don't think it affected the result as the second booking came just before time.

We have some work to do on our defensive shape, attacking in the final third and very occassional moments of ill discipline, but all in all a more than pleasing performance from a young side who showed terrific resiliance to keep digging in and finally getting the result they deserved.

1 Luke Parker-Hodds
2 Ash Tribe (Perry Hegarty 46)
3 Liam Roberts
4 Rikki Brittin
5 Shawn Foster
6 Bobby Bland
7 Dan Seabrooke (Gav Muir 46 - 1)
8 Dan Bone - 1 (Luke Nicholas 82)
9 Sam Hamilton
10 Josh Daniels
11 Mike Campbell - 1
