17/10/07 - Godalming Town Youth 1 Fleet Town Youth 3 - SYL

A really pleasing result, but far from our silkiest performance. With the squad currently decimated through injury and college committments it would have been easy for us to lie down and take a beating, but fortunately the chosen few dug deep and got the 3 points.

We started fast and on 2 minutes a Sam Hamilton cross was tucked away by Gavin Muir from a tight angle. 1-0

On 14 minutes Sam Hamilton broke the offside trap to make it 2-0.

Following this our play became disjointed, being caught offside on too many occasions and not keeping the ball.

In 43 minutes we got a wake up call when we were done by another straight ball and the Godalming defender finished well in a 1 on 1. 2-1.

We held on a bit in the second half as we lacked a little cohesion, but were never really threatened.

It was left to Dan Bone to put the tie to rest with a 6 yard tap in in the dying minutes. 3-1.

Like I say it wasn't our most fluent display, but it was a game we had to get through. I thought Matt Goodsell equipped himself well for his first game between the sticks for us. Also credit to Shawn Foster and Bobby Bland for playing through their injuries and also to 'Frontliner' Alex Purcell for coming along and ending up playing 30 minutes when Shawn's injury got too much.

Next game is due to be Westfield @ Home on Thursday 1st November. Hopefully we can get a few back from injury so that I can have some selection head aches.
